Description

The objective was to update the intranet to better align with the needs of target audience number one. Rather than conducting research, the focus was on visually transforming complex data to be easily understandable for three different target audiences.

The process of visualizing data in this intranet redesign focused on making complex inventory information understandable for three distinct target audiences: store employees, headquarters staff, and management. Without conducting research, the approach relied on structuring data in a way that aligned with each group's specific needs.

Situation

You are an employee at The Sting and are tasked with taking inventory. You do this using a scanner. To complete the task quickly, it is important that each clothing item has a price tag attached. Unfortunately, nine out of ten times, this is not the case, so you have to manually enter a six-digit code into the scanner. At the same time, you also need to assist customers, tidy up fitting rooms, and, when you're at the cash register, check out customers. Time is of the essence.

End User

The employees of The Sting, management & head office.

Data Collection

An employee at The Sting carries out the inventory with a scanner by scanning the price tags on clothing items. If no price tag is present, the employee must manually enter a six-digit code.

Content operations

You measure success primarily by inventory accuracy. It would be helpful to use a system that shows inventory discrepancies so that employees can see when items have been scanned correctly or when further action is needed. Success can also be linked to the efficiency of the system, such as reducing the time spent per task and ensuring that inventory matches the data in the system.

Measuring success

keeping the content up to date

You work with real-time updates for inventory. When discrepancies become known, you can immediately rescan and make the necessary adjustments. Headquarters is responsible for quickly addressing inventory issues (such as surplus or improper distribution) and accurately placing new orders for inventory.

The ownership of the data mainly lies with The sting itself. The head office has control over, among other things, verifying and updating inventory discrepancies between different stores. Employees enter the data (by scanning), but control and final decisions about the data are made by the relevant department at head office.
